U.S at the French Open-Day 1
The first day is in the books. Here are the results for the Americans:
James Blake was the only American male to compete. He earned a victory. The women were not so lucky. Julie Ditty, Lilia Osterloh and Ashley Harkleroad lost. Serena Williams earned a victory.
That means all ten American men are still in the tournament, although nine have yet to play. Only six of the original nine American women are still alive.
Ten men and six women remain after Day 1. If that sounds like a lot, it is. But that’s because few of them actually played. Even so, I’m impressed that I can say 16 Americans remain in the French Open heading into the second day.
